I signaled, slowed down carefully, and stopped only when it was safe to do so. When there were no cars passing by, I quietly shifted into first gear. It worked. By not forcing the situation, I was able to get home without panic or harm.

Just as my old car stalled and then moved again in first gear, my family found their way forward without being pushed. My husband, after a long period of uncertainty following his retirement from journalism, returned to writing in a new form and gradually regained his confidence. My children, too, began taking their time—making their own decisions, moving toward the future at a pace that felt right to them. What returned wasn’t perfection, but trust. And with that trust, we could face an unfinished present without fear.
